Since I was a kid I collected stones, all kind of stones, like minerals and fossils, later on also stones with funny shapes and old ancient stone age tools made out of flint or other hard material. The idea that I find a kind of tool that has been used in the early years of humanity, still fascinate me enormously.
Also old buildings, eroded rocks, pavement that is worn out by centuries of traffic with horses, shoes, animals and later on cars. This patina of human traces and erosion is where I’m looking for in making ceramic art and before that in furniture and paintings.
I’m working with clay since 6 years now and it still feels fresh. So many possibilities and also very primitive. To work with the clay, also self mined in the neighborhood as well near my place in the Aveyron (F) where you can find a wide spectrum of red clay colour soil and from the south of Portugal where you can find very oily “fatty” clay that turns into a dark chocolate brown stoneware. The clay, the oxides that gives colour with or without the use of glaze and finally the fire with wood, or in my case (because I’m living in a city) electric -> sun.
Steering as little as possible with my “head” but by letting it arise by looking carefully and having the courage to go further. To “expanding my intuitive antennas” is what encourages me to do it every time again and again..
